Trump Surpasses 12,000 Lies and Scaramucci and Maher Capture the Age We Live in

The Washington Post's fact checkers have now documented more than 12,000 misrepresentations, exaggerations and bald-face lies by our President over his 31 or so months in office. It averages out to about 13 per day, but it hasn't remained constant during his term of office. Over the last four months he's averaged about 20 per day, as if he needed a bit of time to get warmed up. And, like Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hit streak, it feels like a record that may never be broken.

His most repeated lie concern's his "wall," which he continues to claim is being built along the border with Mexico. He has repeated it so often, about 190 times, that you wonder if maybe Donald Jr. or Ivanka is showing him pictures of their neighbor putting up a privacy fence and telling him that its on the border.

The economy is a frequent subject for the President's distortions and his recurring claim that Americans aren't ultimately paying the tab for his tariff war with China is inflating his numbers recently. Likewise for his assertions that Russia didn't interfere for his benefit in the 2016 election. He just can't bring himself to acknowledge that Putin helped him defeat Hillary Clinton. Another Trump favorite is climate change and his various conspiracy theories on the subject.

Speaking of lies, Bill Maher had the best response to Tucker Carlson's peculiar claim that white nationalism isn't a problem despite law enforcement warnings to the contrary.

Maher, HBO Real Time video via Mediate.com: "You’ve gotta love Republicans. Global warming’s a hoax. Russia, that was a hoax. White nationalism is a hoax. Hillary Clinton runs a pedophile ring out of a pizza parlor? Completely true.”

And, yesterday former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci offered a chilling prediction about America's future with Donald Trump.

Scaramucci, Twitter: "For the last 3 years I have fully supported this President. Recently he has said things that divide the country in a way that is unacceptable. So I didn't pass the 100% litmus test. Eventually he [Trump] turns on everyone and soon it will be you and then the entire country."

Yikes, that's a bit scary, but Scaramucci went even further later in the day.

Axios: In a phone interview on Sunday afternoon, Scaramucci compared Trump to a melting nuclear reactor and said he may support a Republican challenger to Trump.
"We are now in the early episodes of 'Chernobyl' on HBO, where the reactor is melting down and the apparatchiks are trying to figure out whether to cover it up or start the clean-up process," Scaramucci said.
"A couple more weeks like this and 'country over party' is going to require the Republicans to replace the top of the ticket in 2020."
