Trump Sidelines Fauci & Turns to Game Show Host, Chuck Woolery for Guidance on the Pandemic

Lately I have been imagining that moment, perhaps a decade or so in the future, when my grandchildren ask, "grandpa, when was it that you realized that Donald Trump was a raving lunatic?"

This week the White House has been feeding documents to various media outlets that contain comments made by Dr. Anthony Fauci in an attempt to damage his reputation. Trump is unhappy that the top infectious disease expert in the country won't lie to Americans about the severity of the Covid-19 crisis. Apparently Fauci has managed to retain his dignity and integrity even while having to work closely with our truth-challenged President.

And, while undermining Fauci, Trump turned to a new source of insight on the coronavirus crisis, former game show host, Chuck Woolery. It appears that Woolery had spent some hours exploring Web MD and determined that Covid-19 was a hoax concocted by Democrats, doctors, and the CDC to undermine the President.

Woolery, Tritter: "The most outrageous lies are the ones about Covid 19. Everyone is lying. The CDC, Media, Democrats, our Doctors, not all but most ,that we are told to trust. I think it's all about the election and keeping the economy from coming back, which is about the election. I'm sick of it."

President Trump then retweeted Woolery's conspiracy theory in the hope that Americans had completely lost their minds and forgotten that Woolery was the host of the Love Connection, instead of an infectious disease expert.

Meanwhile, in the real world, Covid-19 infection rates are booming across many parts of the country and deaths are beginning to rise as well. More than 3.3 million Americans have been infected with the virus and more than 132,000 have died, the highest totals in the world.

The Biden campaign captured the outrage that many feel about Trump's attempts to undermine Fauci and minimize the crisis.

ABC News: "The president's disgusting attempt to pass the buck by blaming the top infectious disease expert in the country -- whose advice he repeatedly ignored and Joe Biden consistently implored him to take -- is yet another horrible and revealing failure of leadership as the tragic death toll continues to needlessly grow.”

You know, it will be difficult to explain to our children and grandchildren how America fell so far down the rabbit hole during the Trump years.
