Trump's Wacky "Suburban Housewife" Rant Captures All His Racism & Sexism in One Sickening Tweet
I have to admit that when I saw Donald Trump's demented "suburban housewife" tweet last week I thought it had to be a headline from the satirists at the Onion.
Trump, Twitter: "The “suburban housewife” will be voting for me. They want safety & are thrilled that I ended the long running program where low income housing would invade their neighborhood. Biden would reinstall it, in a bigger form, with Corey Booker in charge!"
The purpose of his cringe-worthy tweet was to highlight his decision to scrap an Obama-era program called Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing that was meant to prevent housing discrimination. And, of course, he hoped to scare white women living in the suburbs, a voting block that has abandoned Trump, according to recent polls.
I suspect that Trump's tweet isn't going to convince many suburban women that he deserves to be reelected; shipped off to a "home," perhaps, but not reelected.
First, this isn't the 1950s. About 30% of the "suburban women" in the United States today are people of color, many of which benefited from policies that curtail housing discrimination.
Second, could Trump's tweet be any more racist; "invade their neighborhood," and put "Corey Booker in charge." WTF! Are we to believe that Trump just coincidentally chose one of the few black men in the Senate to lead the effort. It's almost as if the Klan is now ghost writing the President's tweets.
Third, does our President really believe that white suburban women are this shallow, this helpless, this racist? Does Trump have a picture in his mind of terrified white women sitting at home alone in the suburbs, peering out their window in horror as a brown family moves in across the street?
The great thing about the President's tweet is that it neatly encapsulates how he thinks, what goes on in his warped mind. He's an old, unapologetic bigot, and he really doesn't care if we all know it.
