Trump's Unforgivable Lies About the Threat Posed By Covid-19 Cost American Lives

Donald Trump has now admitted that he lied to us about the threat posed by the Covid-19 virus. While he was insisting in public that Covid-19 was "going to disappear" and that everything would "all work out fine, he was telling Bob Woodward a far different story, one that Americans deserved to hear so that they could take precautions to protect themselves and their families.
Trump via the Washington Post: “You just breathe the air and that’s how it’s passed,” Trump said in a Feb. 7 call. “And so that’s a very tricky one. That’s a very delicate one. It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flu.”
“This is deadly stuff,” the president repeated for emphasis. … Trump admitted to Woodward on March 19 that he deliberately minimized the danger. “I wanted to always play it down,” the president said."
Yes, Trump lies a lot, but this one is unforgivable. His reticence to offer straight talk to the American people led to many more cases, untold suffering, and unnecessary deaths. And, in the long run, it devastated our economy.
New York Times: "Mr. Trump’s lack of leadership almost certainly made the nation’s suffering greater, its death toll higher and its economic costs more severe in the long term. When the president dithered on testing and contact tracing, when he failed to make or execute a clear and effective plan for securing personal protective equipment, when he repeatedly belittled and dismissed mask mandates and other social distancing edicts, Mr. Trump knew the virus was deadly and airborne. He knew that millions of people could get sick, and many would die."
Washington Post, Jennifer Rubin: "His actions cost critical time, prevented earlier lockdowns and provided a false sense of security to vulnerable people. In all likelihood, tens of thousands of dead Americans would be alive today if he had acted with minimal competence and honesty."
CNN: "If instead of playing down what he knew, Trump had acted decisively in early February with a strict shutdown and a consistent message to wear masks, social distance and wash hands, experts believe that thousands of American lives could have been saved."
And, this time there is no spinning the story as "fake news"; Bob Woodward has the tapes. Donald Trump sacrificed American lives needlessly and he is unfit to serve as President. Trump lied and Americans died.
