PA GOP Congressman Votes Against Marriage Equality Then Celebrates Son's Same-Sex Wedding

GOP Rep. Glenn Thompson of Pennsylvania voted against federal legislation that would require states to recognize same-sex marriages last week. Three days later, the congressman celebrated his son’s same-sex wedding. Either Thompson had a change of heart within 72 hours or it's one of the finest examples of hypocrisy in congressional history. Thompson responded to media inquiries by saying that he and his wife were "thrilled to attend and celebrate their son's marriage on Friday night as he began this new chapter in his life."
Thompson, who represents a rural district in western PA, joined 156 other Republican House members in opposing the Respect for Marriage Act. Congressional Democrats proposed the legislation in response to the Supreme Court's Dobbs ruling which overturned Roe v. Wade, and Justice Clarence Thomas's only slightly veiled threats to overturn the Court's marriage equality ruling next.
