New Poll: Republicans Say Trump is a Better President than Lincoln or Eisenhower

The new [and very detailed] Economist/YouGov poll may tell us quite a bit about those who currently identify themselves as Republicans. In the survey, respondents were asked to compare Donald Trump to past Republican presidents including Abraham Lincoln, generally viewed by historians as one of the two best presidents to ever serve the nation [along with Franklin Delano Roosevelt]. While Trump fared very poorly with Democrats and Independents, among Republicans he was seen as a better leader than Lincoln, Eisenhower, Nixon, Bush [both of them], and Ford. And Trump bested most of them quite handily. For instance, 65% of Republicans view him as a better leader than Dwight Eisenhower.
It's dangerous to read too much into just one survey, but the results are, nonetheless, jaw-dropping. How could any sentient individual look at Lincoln's and Trump's careers and judge the current president to be the better leader of our nation? You could pose the same question regarding Dwight Eisenhower or George H.W. Bush, who Trump defeated by a 40 point margin. It's inexplicable....and disturbing. And it probably says quite a bit about the current Republican Party.
