Mitch McConnell Refuses to Allow the Senate to Vote on 250 Bills Passed by House Democrats

President Trump woke early this morning to tweet another falsehood he uses to attack the House's impeachment probe. In his tweet he infers that Nancy Pelosi is so absorbed with the impeachment process that nothing else is getting done in Congress. Nothing could be further from the truth.

At least 250 bills passed by Democrats in the House are sitting on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's desk. Representative Sean Casten of IL argues the number is actually 275. McConnell refuses to allow the Senate to vote on any of them and House members have begun to refer to the Senate as Mitch's "legislative graveyard."

Nancy Pelosi released a letter in early November to counter Republican claims that House Democrats were slowing the legislative process by conducting their impeachment inquiry. She lists several of the important bills that McConnell refuses to take up in the Senate.

Pelosi Letter via Axios: "While Mitch McConnell claims the House is only focused on impeachment, there are scores of critical bills sitting on his desk sent to him by the House Democratic Majority. Among them are:

• H.R. 1 – For The People Act – Sent to the Senate 239 days ago.

• H.R. 8 – Bipartisan Background Checks Act – Sent to the Senate 248 days ago.

• H.R. 7 – Paycheck Fairness Act – Sent to the Senate 220 days ago.

• H.R. 1585 – VAWA Reauthorization Act – Sent to the Senate 212 days ago.

• H.R. 9 – Climate Action Now Act – Sent to the Senate 184 days ago.

• H.R. 5 – Equality Act – Sent to the Senate 169 days ago.

• H.R. 6 – Dream and Promise Act – Sent to the Senate 151 days ago.

• H.R. 582 – Raise the Wage Act – Sent to the Senate 107 days ago."

The reality is that the Democratic House elected last year has been one of the most active in recent history. McConnell and the President just don't like the bills they've passed. McConnell refuses to take them up in the Senate because he doesn't want to force Republicans to vote against bills that are widely supported by their constituents. And McConnell has even bragged that he will stonewall legislation before it can reach a vote in the Senate.

Axios: The big picture: McConnell has called himself the "grim reaper" of progressive policies in the Senate. His campaign has also tweeted a photo of a graveyard with Democratic efforts marked on the headstones, including the name of McConnell's Democratic competitor Amy McGrath.
