Lindsey Graham Loses His Mind, Says Blacks Don't Face Discrimination if They are "Conservative"

Yesterday, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina refused to be tested for the coronavirus, so his debate with his Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison was scrapped. Instead, both candidates sat for separate interviews that were televised last night.
During his interview, Graham was asked about potential legislation to address police brutality, and he gave one of the most bizarre answers one is likely to hear this campaign season. It was either a case of brutal honesty about racism in South Carolina or the Senator suffered some sort of a momentary breakdown.
After saying that he didn't believe blacks faced systemic racism in South Carolina he said, ..."if you are a young African-American, an immigrant, you can go anywhere in this state, you just need to be conservative not liberal."
WTF does that mean?
Is Graham inferring that the police in South Carolina ask your political affiliation before deciding whether to beat the "liberal" out of you?
Is he saying that brown folks wearing suits and carrying briefcases are safe, but those in jeans and t-shirts are screwed?
It's always perilous trying to get inside Lindsey Graham's head, but it's likely that the good Senator was appealing to an old southern prejudice about "good blacks" and "bad blacks". Good blacks try to act "white," to fit in, while the bad ones act "black", dress black, and listen to rap music. Even today, you frequently hear versions of this bigotry throughout the South. Graham just substituted "conservative" for "white." I suspect the citizens of South Carolina understood exactly what Lindsey Graham meant; If you don't want to get shot, ditch the baggy jeans and buy some "Dockers".
