Laughing Through the Pandemic; Andy Borowitz & Trump's Wacky Virus Updates

It's becoming difficult to tell the difference between Donald Trump's cringe-worthy daily virus updates and the growing number of parodies.

The President said yesterday that he wants to "reopen" America by Easter, but like much of what Trump says, his time-line is based on absolutely nothing. He just made up the date. Seriously, he just thought it up and then said it.

New York Times: "Mr. Trump, however, did not budge on the April 12 date, which he said he did not arrive at by examining any data. “I just thought it was a beautiful time,” he said."

Yikes. Germany gets "fireside chats" and straight talk from Angela Merkel, and America get's "magic realism." Oh, the irony.

CNN, Twitter & CNN's Reliable Sources: "What we're seeing right now in our emergency rooms is dire," Dr. Craig Spencer of the Columbia University Medical Center told Anderson Cooper Tuesday night... "To think that we'll be in any place to lift these restrictionary measures by Easter, in just two or three weeks, for me, seems completely magical thinking."

Many other medical professionals were quick to point out that the President didn't know what he was talking about, but the problem is that Trump has the "bully pulpit" and is using it to spread disinformation at a time when Americans need to hear the facts from folks that do understand the crisis.

Chris Hayes, MSNBC, via Mediaite: “In the midst of this global pandemic, at this moment of crisis, the president, as he has been doing daily, as he has done since the first case arrived on our shores, went out today and said things that that are flat out wrong, that are lies, and more than that, that are dangerous. That’s why we did not play you any sound of what he said today because, frankly, the president has become a kind of — well, he’s a genuine threat to public health, his rhetoric at this point, the things he says.”
Joe Biden, New York Times: “He should stop talking and start listening to the medical experts,” former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. said in an interview with CNN. “What is going on with this man?”

Andy Borowitz satirically nailed it earlier this week: "Dr. Fauci Reports That Alcohol May Help People Survive Coronavirus Briefings."

America deserves better than Donald Trump...right?
