Joe Biden & the Liberation of Anthony Fauci and Science

There may be no one happier about the election of Joe Biden than the nation's top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci. He seems practically giddy since Trump left the White House and it's quite understandable. Yesterday he told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow that he wanted to appear on her show for "months" but was blocked by the Trump administration. He explained to Maddow that in his 40 years of working for both Republican and Democratic administrations he had never before witnessed such attacks on science.
Earlier in the week at a White House press briefing Fauci explained that he now felt liberated to discuss science and research without worrying about offending the President.
The Hill: “I can tell you I take no pleasure at all in being in a situation of contradicting the president, so it was really something that you didn’t feel you could actually say something and there wouldn’t be any repercussions about it,” he said. “The idea that you can get up here and talk about what you know, what the evidence and science is, and know that’s it — let the science speak — it is somewhat of a liberating feeling.”
Fauci speaks for many Americans concerning Trump's rejection of evidence based public policy. Most educated voters were fed up with cancer causing wind turbines, injectable disinfectants, obstinate toilets, "patriotic" history texts, forged hurricane projection maps, and Trump's insane attacks on climate scientists and infectious disease specialists. Enough!
Joe Biden is a wonderful human being, but folks with some appreciation for objective truth would have voted for a potted plant just so they didn't have to listen to one more Trump coronavirus update or diatribe against wind energy.
The Union of Concerned Scientists, not exactly a "lefty" organization, published a report in 2017 and updated it into December of 2020 documenting Trump's attacks on science. By last Fall they had documented 150 instances in which the Trump administration had ignored or attempted to bury scientific research that contradicted their preferred policy position.
Union of Concerned Scientists: "The Trump administration and 115th Congress have been actively dismantling science-based health and safety protections, sidelining scientific evidence, and undoing recent progress on scientific integrity."
"Below is a running list of attacks on science—disappearing data, silenced scientists, and other assaults on scientific integrity and science-based policy."
You can see the entire list through December 16, 2020 here.
So, yes, Anthony Fauci is quite pleased to now be working for a President that will undo much of the damage to scientific integrity wrought by Donald Trump. But, that should be great news to anyone that believes that public policy should be based on facts, research, and science. It's an American Renaissance, our new Enlightenment.
