Cindy McCain Endorses Joe Biden; "He Will Lead Us With Dignity"
Cindy McCain, the widow of former U.S. Senator and 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain, endorsed Joe Biden for president yesterday saying, "there's only one candidate in this race who stands up for our values as a nation, and that is Joe Biden."
Cindy McCain: "Joe and I don't always agree on the issues, and I know he and John certainly had some passionate arguments, but he is a good and honest man. He will lead us with dignity."
McCain also said that Biden would make a good commander-in-chief "because he knows what it is like to send a child off to fight."
Biden's son, Beau, served as an officer in the Army while three of McCain's children served in the military.
It's likely that Cindy McCain was motivated by Donald Trump's abhorrent comments about her husband, and his more recent reference to American soldiers who died in war as "losers" and "suckers."
Trump attacked John McCain while campaigning for president in 2015, saying "he's not a war hero." "He was a war hero because he was captured? I like people who weren't captured."
It's unclear that any one endorsement can sway a lot of voters, but the sheer number of prominent Republicans that have sacrificed their place in their party to endorse Joe Biden is unprecedented in history.
