Breaking: Acting Ambassador William B. Taylor's Testimony Eviscerates Trump's Ukraine Defense
Things just got much worse for Donald Trump. The House impeachment probe will likely accelerate as the result of acting ambassador William B. Taylor's testimony today. It undermines Trump's "no quid pro quo" defense and lays bare the nature and extent of the President's campaign to force the Ukraine to manufacture dirt on Hunter and Joe Biden, and investigate old conspiracy theories about the 2016 election.
You can read his opening statement here.
Washington Post: "The senior U.S. diplomat in Ukraine told lawmakers Tuesday that President Trump made the release of military aid contingent on public declarations from Ukraine that it would investigate the Bidens and the 2016 election, contradicting Trump’s denial that he used the money as leverage for political gain.
The explosive, closed-door testimony from acting ambassador William B. Taylor Jr. undermined the repeated statements of the president and the depositions of other administration officials, with the potential to reset the House impeachment probe of Trump."
There will be many more comments over the next 24 hours, but Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida provided some early feedback during a break in the ambassador's testimony.
Wash. Post: “It was just the most damning testimony I’ve heard.” .... “He drew a very specific direct line from President Trump to the withholding of foreign aid and the refusal of a meeting,” between Trump and the new Ukrainian leader, Wasserman Schultz said."
Republicans in the Senate will find it much more difficult to defend the President after today and Trump's impeachment has become significantly more likely.
