New Research Confirms the Positive Health Impact of Drinking Coffee

Great news for caffeine addicts like myself. Several recent peer reviewed studies have demonstrated the positive effects of drinking coffee, even a lot of coffee. The research included:

Inc.: :A study in which researchers funded by the American Heart Association and the University of Colorado School of Medicine found that risk of heart failure or stroke went down 8 percent for each additional cup of coffee per day."

"A British study of 498,123 people found that the ones who habitually drank coffee were between 10 and 15 percent less likely to die during any 10 year period than non-coffee drinkers."

"A Stanford University study that tracked 100 people over several years, and found that coffee drinkers tended to live longer than non-coffee drinkers. Here, the theory--just a theory, but still -- was that increased caffeine consumption might counteract the "fundamental inflammatory mechanism associated with human aging."

And a large Spanish study in 2017 of about 20 000 participants found that drinking a lot of coffee each day can reduce your risk of dying.

European Society of Cardiology: "The researchers found that participants who consumed at least four cups of coffee per day had a 64% lower risk of all-cause mortality than those who never or almost never consumed coffee... "

The lead researcher in the Spanish study concluded that, "our findings suggest that drinking four cups of coffee each day can be part of a healthy diet in healthy people.

Great news, but there must be a ceiling on how much you should drink, right? Yes, new research from Australia, published in the The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that your risk of heart disease increases after five cups per day.

Inc.: "In order to maintain a healthy heart and a healthy blood pressure, people must limit their coffees to fewer than six cups a day - based on our data six was the tipping point where caffeine started to negatively affect cardiovascular risk," said Professor Elina Hyppönen of the Australian Centre for Precision Health, one of the study's authors."

I love coffee, but staying under six cups shouldn't be much of a problem.
