Naval Academy to Ban Transgender Students in 2020
The Obama administration lifted restrictions on transgender service members in 2016 and they had been allowed to serve openly until the Trump administration instituted a ban which took effect earlier this month. The President's new policy will impact about 15,000 service members.
Yesterday the Department of Defense took the new policy a step further by banning their attendance at the Naval Academy beginning in the 2020 school year.
The Capital Gazette, Annapolis: "Transgender people will be effectively banned from attending the Naval Academy beginning in the 2020 school year, the Defense Department confirmed Monday."
[The] "Policy barring transgender people from serving in the United States military will also affect the Naval Academy, which has under previous policy accepted transgender students and retained midshipmen who want to transition during the course of their education."
There is no rational basis for Trump's transgender ban, but it does please his evangelical Christian base. And that, for this President, is enough.
