50th Anniversary Woodstock Concert Planned
Start making plans for this summer's 50th anniversary Woodstock festival. About 400,000 people attended the original concert in August 1969 at Max Yasgur's dairy farm near White Lake in Bethel, N.Y. It included performances by The Who, Melanie, Canned Heat, Joan Baez, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Joe Cocker, the Grateful Dead and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
The Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center, which was built near the original Woodstock site, announced the festival on their website this week.
Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center: "Together with Live Nation Concerts and INVNT we are joining forces to produce Bethel Woods Music and Culture Festival: Celebrating the golden anniversary at the historic site of the 1969 Woodstock festival! This pan-generational cultural event will feature live music, TED-style talks and special exhibits."
Syracuse.com: "According to @TheFestiveOwl, Woodstock 2019 will feature a main stage with a capacity of 30,000, plus a pavilion for 15,000 (like the Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center), a Next Gen tent featuring EDM artists and DJs, and a social stage for acoustic and emerging artists."
There are no details yet about the music line-up, but rumors are already circulating about artists that have been approached about performing.
Syracuse.com: "Approached artists for the 50th anniversary concert include original Woodstock performers and other classic rock artists such as Neil Young, Graham Nash, Santana, The Who, Phish, Joan Baez, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and the Doobie Brothers."
"Approached artists for the 50th anniversary concert include more current pop, rock, hip-hop and latin artists, such as Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Logic, Chance the Rapper, Pink, Lorde, The Weeknd, Coldplay, Kesha, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, and Eminem."
The Miami Herald published a piece yesterday about the original Woodstock performers and which of them might be interested in an anniversary performance. Don't be surprised to see some version of CSN&Y, Santana, Joan Baez, John Fogerty, and Country Joe McDonald.
See you there!
