Sinema Widens Her Lead Over McSally in Arizona
Democratic Rep. Kyrsten Sinema increased her lead over Rep. Martha McSally in Arizona's tight Senate race as ballot counting continued Friday afternoon. Sinema more than doubled her lead to 20,203 votes as election officials tallied votes from Maricopa County.
But, It's still a bit early for Democrats to celebrate as there are several hundred thousand more votes to count, some from AZ counties that McSally won by large margins. However, If Sinema's lead holds up, she would be the first Democrat elected to the Senate from Arizona since Dennis DeConcini won reelection in 1988. She would also be Arizona's first woman Senator and the first openly bisexual person elected to the Senate.
Rep. Sinema has an interesting back-story which we highlighted here.
