President Trump Offers Amusing "Correction" to His Press Conference Comments
Our President just can't bring himself to acknowledge that Russia carried out an intelligence operation in 2016 meant to install him as President even after the furor caused by his comments at yesterday's press conference with Vladimir Putin. Even his closest allies felt that his comments made him appear weak and submissive to Putin.
So, today he issued a correction in which he said:
Via Axios: "I accept our intelligence community's conclusion that Russia's meddling in the 2016 election took place. Could be other people also. A lot of people out there."
What? No, Mr. President, it's not Russia and some other miscellaneous nation or individual. Its Russia. Your intelligence agencies and Justice Department have been quite clear on who was trying to get you elected. It was that guy standing next to you yesterday.
He went on to explain: "In a key sentence in my remarks, I said the word would instead of wouldn't. The sentence should have been...'I don't see any reason why it WOULDN'T be Russia.' Sort of a double negative. So you can put that in, and I think that probably clarifies things."
Really? You think that clarifies things? What in the name of god does "I don't see any reason it wouldn't be Russia" even mean? Do you accept the word of your Justice Department and every US intelligence agency or don't you? Were you firm in placing the blame on Putin and his intelligence services when you met with him? Have you told him that there will be substantial consequences if it happens again? Why is it so easy to doubt that you did?
It will be interesting to see who buys this explanation.
