Get Ready for "Abortion Wars" in a State Near You
The retirement of Justice Kennedy will have immediate ramifications across the country. State legislatures in the South, Plains and Mid-West will start to enact restrictive abortion laws or outright bans even before a new Justice can be confirmed in anticipation of a fifth vote to overturn Roe V Wade. This Fall the issue will begin to creep back into state legislative elections across the nation because voters on the right and left understand that the issue may again be decided at the state level. Activists on both sides of the issue are already gearing up for the "abortion wars" to come.
Jeffery Toobin CNN: “I think sometimes we talk about Supreme Court too much in abstractions, about dignity and who is qualified and who is not. Let’s talk facts. Let’s talk about what America is going to be like that is different. You are going to see 20 states pass laws banning abortion outright. Just banning abortion and because they know that there are now going to be five votes on the Supreme Court to overturn Roe V. Wade,” Toobin said.
Abortion will be the marquee issue, but Kennedy's replacement will also represent the fifth vote to finish off Obamacare, undermine LGBT rights and gender equality, end all campaign finance restrictions and terminate affirmative action. America is about to change quite a bit.
