Yesterday's Special Election in Arizona; More Evidence of Democratic Gains This Fall
In Arizona yesterday, Republican Debbie Lasko (R) defeated Democrat Hiral Tipirneni in a special election to fill the seat of Trent Franks by 53% to 48%. That is the good news for Republicans. The bad news is that Donald Trump won the district by 21 points in 2016 and Mitt Romney won it in 2012 by an even larger margin. The shift toward Democrats in this very red district was a bit more than in some other special elections in the Trump era and points toward substantial gains in the House for Democrats this Fall.
