AZ Special Election Will be Interesting Even if the Republican Wins as Expected
Arizona Republicans expect to win today's special election in the suburbs of Phoenix after sinking more than $1 million into the district to hold off Democrat challenger Hiral Tipirneni. In previous years Republican Debbie Lesko, a former state senator, would be expected to win handily in a district won by Donald Trump by 21 points. But polls show a tighter than expected race [somewhere between a toss-up and a 10 point Lesko lead]. Lesko will probably pull this out, but its likely that Tipirneni will make it interesting and provide more evidence that Democratic candidates will be viable this Fall even in historically Republican suburban districts.
