Trump Releases Earth Day Message "Mocking" Earth Day
Trump's Earth Day message was akin to issuing a Christmas message touting the economic benefits of buying lots of presents for the family. It misses the point, but with Scott Pruitt still firmly in charge of the EPA despite a bevy of scandals, it was no surprise. Trumps message captures his and Pruitt's [and much of the Republican Party's] environmental philosophy:
... "We know that it is impossible for humans to flourish without clean air, land, and water," Trump said in a statement released by the White House. "We also know that a strong, market-driven economy is essential to protecting these resources."
"For this reason, my Administration is dedicated to removing unnecessary and harmful regulations that restrain economic growth and make it more difficult for local communities to prosper and to choose the best solutions for their environment."
His message was surely directed to his base in coal country as well as the oil and chemical companies which fund the Republican Party. Predictable, but sad.
