The Oldest Known Photograph

"View from the Window at Le Gras" (created in 1826 or 1827), by Nicéphore Niépce, is the earliest surviving photograph of a natural scene, made with a camera obscura. Due to the 8-hour exposure time needed to make the photograph, the buildings are illuminated by the sun from both right and left.
