2000 DOJ Prosecutors & FBI Officials Call on Barr to Resign Over Assaults on the Rule of Law

In an unprecedented and powerful display of unity and sense of purpose, almost 2000 former Justice Department prosecutors and FBI officials, including those appointed during both Democratic and Republican administrations, have called on Attorney General William Barr to resign over his "repeated assaults on the rule of law." They argue that Barr's decision to drop the prosecution of Michael Flynn, Donald Trump's disgraced national security advisor, was done to "further President Trump's personal and political interests." And, they point out that it comes just weeks after Barr intervened to "seek favorable treatment for President Trump’s close associate, Roger Stone," during his sentencing hearing.
The FBI officials and former federal prosecutors warn that Barr's unconscionable and unprincipled decisions in the Stone and Flynn cases undermine the rule of law and our notion of equal justice for all.
Statement of Former Prosecutors & FBI Officials: "If any of us, or anyone reading this statement who is not a friend of the President, were to lie to federal investigators in the course of a properly predicated counterintelligence investigation, and admit we did so under oath, we would be prosecuted for it."
And, they accurately point out that democracy can not thrive if the majority of the nation's citizens determine that our justice system has become a corrupt tool of those in power.
Statement of Former Prosecutors & FBI Officials: "We also call upon Congress to formally censure Attorney General Barr for his repeated assaults on the rule of law in doing the President’s personal bidding rather than acting in the public interest. Our democracy depends on a Department of Justice that acts as an independent arbiter of equal justice, not as an arm of the president’s political apparatus."
It's impossible to overemphasize how unprecedented this statement by these officials is. It's as if the entire federal justice system is pointing out to Americans that Barr's actions are just as reprehensible as they appear and entirely rooted in establishing political cover for Donald Trump. This isn't about partisan politics to them; it's about salvaging the reputation of the Justice Department and the rule of law in America.
