200,000 Virus Deaths. Donald Trump's Deadly Legacy of Lies & Incompetence
No nation has as many Covid-19 infections or deaths than the United States and we will reach 200,000 recorded fatalities in the next few days. There is no way to spin this; President Donald Trump failed the American people and his incompetence and dishonesty cost lives.
Consider this. The United States has less than 5% of the world's population but has suffered more than 22% of global coronavirus deaths and more than 25% of infections according to data reported by Johns Hopkins University.
How is it possible that the most technologically advanced country in the world handled the pandemic far worse than those nations that Trump likes to call "s..thole countries?"
And, on Friday, our President said he thinks that he's doing a great job. Compared to what? Actually, it's difficult to imagine how he could have done any worse.
Need a sports metaphor? It's as if America was the World Champion Kansas City Chiefs and we had just been shut out by the Cleveland Browns 42-0, and our coach, Donald Trump, came out after the game and claimed to be doing a "phenomenal job."
For a more scientific take on how poorly Donald Trump has performed during the pandemic, an epidemiologist at Johns Hopkins sums it up succinctly:
New York Times: “In many of the countries that have been very successful they had a much crisper strategic direction and really had a vision,” said Caitlin Rivers, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, who wrote a guide to reopening safely for the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative research group. “I’m not sure we ever really had a plan or a strategy — or at least it wasn’t public.”
Dr. Rivers is way too polite. In other words, nations that have fared well against the virus had a strategy, consistent messaging and competent leadership. That is far beyond what anyone could reasonably expect from Donald Trump. And, we are paying a horrific price for his failure.
