Virginia's New Democratic Majority in the House has Passed a Bill to Cap Insulin Co-pays

In discussing the progressive legislation that Virginia's new Democratic majority has passed, we forgot to mention a bill that would cap the co-pays that patients pay for insulin at $30 for a month's supply. This is an incredibly important change because the price of insulin has skyrocketed from "roughly $20 for a 10-millimeter vial of the drug in 1996, to as much as $290 a vial today," or more according to Elsevier’s Gold Standard Drug Database. And these price increases now threaten the health of those who suffer from diabetes.

NPR: "The out-of-control costs have forced some families to ration the drug, buy it on the black market and even travel to Canada, where insulin can be bought for a fraction of the cost."

The measure still has to be approved by Virginia's state Senate before it can be signed into law by Gov. Ralph Northam.
