Two New Allegations of Misconduct in Barr's Justice Department

As we have documented before, Attorney General William Barr often seems to be managing the Justice Department as an extension of the Trump campaign, solely focused on furthering the President's "personal and political interests."

Illuminate: "In an unprecedented and powerful display of unity and sense of purpose, almost 2000 former Justice Department prosecutors and FBI officials, including those appointed during both Democratic and Republican administrations, have called on Attorney General William Barr to resign over his "repeated assaults on the rule of law." They argue that Barr's decision to drop the prosecution of Michael Flynn, Donald Trump's disgraced national security advisor, was done to "further President Trump's personal and political interests." And, they point out that it comes just weeks after Barr intervened to "seek favorable treatment for President Trump’s close associate, Roger Stone," during his sentencing hearing."

Yesterday, two new reports surfaced that support the conclusion that Barr is more interested in getting Donald Trump reelected than he is in justice or the rule of law.

First, a top prosecutor working with John Durham, who is reviewing the Russia investigation, quit, reportedly because she felt that Barr is trying to rush the probe, hoping to report some findings that would help Donald Trump politically.

Hartford Courant: "Federal prosecutor Nora Dannehy, a top aide to U.S. Attorney John H. Durham in his Russia investigation, has quietly resigned — at least partly out of concern that the investigative team is being pressed for political reasons to produce a report before its work is done, colleagues said."

Also yesterday, John Gleeson, the former Federal Judge that was appointed to review Barr's decision to drop charges against Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn, called the decision "corrupt."

Axios, Judge Gleeson: "In the United States, Presidents do not orchestrate pressure campaigns to get the Justice Department to drop charges against defendants who have pleaded guilty — twice, before two different judges — and whose guilt is obvious." ...."There is clear evidence that this motion reflects a corrupt and politically motivated favor unworthy of our justice system."
