Trump Lies About His Environmental Record in Outrageous Florida Speech

Donald Trump's environmental record is so bad that even Republican EPA directors have publicly criticized his policies, but that didn't stop him from claiming that he is a "great environmentalist," while speaking in Jupiter, Florida yesterday. The President is obviously an adherent of the "big lie" school of politics, bending the truth so audaciously that one might wonder how he retains a straight face.

Los Angeles Times: “He’s ignoring science, he’s ignoring experts and now he’s even ignoring his own record,” said Pete Maysmith, a senior vice president for the League of Conservation Voters, a nonprofit group. “Florida is ground zero for climate change with extreme weather and hurricanes in particular. Donald Trump has attempted to roll back over 100 environmental protections, including dozens related to climate change and clean water. He’s an environmental disaster and Florida’s paying the price.”

And, back in June, the former Republican Governor of New Jersey and EPA head Christine Todd Whitman explained to Congress just how dangerous Trump's policies are.

AP: “The EPA on the track it’s on ... is endangering public health,” Christine Todd Whitman, EPA administrator under George W. Bush, told the House Energy and Commerce oversight subcommittee. Whitman said she was “deeply concerned that five decades of environmental progress are at risk because of the attitudes and approach of this administration.”

The President was in Jupiter because he realizes that Florida is a toss-up state in the coming election and that many residents are concerned about climate change, rising seas and clean water. But, instead of defending his policies, Trump tried to sanitize his record, hoping that Floridians have a short memory or don't fully grasp how dangerous his policies are for the environment.

As we have written before, of the many issues that will be debated this Fall, few are as important and clear-cut as environmental policy. The differences between four more years of Donald Trump and a Biden administration are stark. Joe Biden will listen to scientists and his EPA will err on the side of public health. Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he will protect the interests of the energy industry and mining companies, no matter the cost to the environment. And, yes, it really is as simple as that, as the EPA administrators from the Reagan, Bush [both], Clinton and Obama administrations made quite clear in August.

Donald Trump is not a "great environmentalist," no matter how many times he says it. He is quite the opposite, and Floridians should know that.
