New Survey Shows That Anti-Abortion Voters are Also More Opposed to Gender Equality

An interesting new Supermajority/PerryUndem survey of about 2000 likely voters shows that those who oppose abortion are much less likely to support gender equity than pro-choice voters.

The survey's designers first asked the respondents about their views on abortion and then asked them 10 questions related to gender equality such as, "do you want there to be equal numbers of men and women in positions of power in America"? On every single question, pro-choice voters were significantly more supportive of gender equality than pro-life voters. It wasn't even close. For instance, 77% of choice advocates have a positive view of the "me too" movement, while only 23% of anti-abortion voters feel that way. And, 82% of pro-choice voters think the nation would be better off with more women in elective office, while only 34% of pro-life respondents feel that way.

In evaluating all the survey responses, it's difficult not to get the impression that the anti-abortion movement is motivated, at least in part, from a desire to keep women in their "place," in the home raising children. At a minimum, the results demonstrate that pro-life voters are not yet comfortable with gender equality in America.
