John Bolton's New Book Will Argue that Trump's Corruption Extended Far Beyond the Ukraine Scandal

Yesterday, the publishing company Simon & Schuster announced that former national security adviser John Bolton's book, "In the Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir," would be released on June 23. The Trump administration is still trying to stop the book's release because Bolton was privy to the events leading up to Donald Trump's impeachment. According to a leaked draft of the book, Bolton will acknowledge that Trump's impeachment defense was a lie and that the President withheld aid to Ukraine for the express purpose of forcing that nation's government to undertake "political investigations into his [Trump's] Democratic rivals," specifically, Hunter and Joe Biden.

But, the White House also fears that Bolton will reveal additional instances of political corruption that will undermine Trump's reelection effort. The publishers hinted at that yesterday.

CNN: "Bolton writes that he found every decision Trump made was centered on his reelection, Simon & Schuster said, and that Bolton thought House Democrats "committed impeachment malpractice" by focusing only on Ukraine -- not additional foreign policy decisions where "Ukraine-like transgressions existed."
"I am hard-pressed to identify any significant Trump decision during my tenure that wasn't driven by reelection calculations," Bolton writes, according to Simon & Schuster."
The Hill: ... "Bolton will allege that Trump’s purported misdeeds regarding Ukraine — the issue that led to his impeachment in December — were replicated “across the full range of his foreign policy.”
"The publisher promises that Bolton “documents exactly what those were” and also stresses that the author was “astonished” to see “a president for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation.”

Expect the Trump administration to fight the publication of Bolton's memoir right up to the date of publication. The White House knows that Bolton still has the respect of many Republicans who followed him on Fox News and remember him as a staunch conservative who served as George W Bush’s feisty ambassador to the United Nations.
