Trump's EPA Releases New Coal-Friendly Power Plant Rules

President Trump's EPA unveiled new greenhouse gas emission guidelines today and they will substantially reduce restrictions on coal-fired power plants. Trump's coal-friendly plan will replace former President Obama's Clean Power Plan which was the cornerstone of his administration’s commitment to the Paris climate agreement.

In addition to allowing more greenhouse gases emissions, compared to Obama's plan, the EPA also revealed that more American lives would be at risk if President Trump's proposal is approved.

Newsweek: The Environmental Working Group warned on Tuesday that the Trump administration's new Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) Plan would "mean more children suffering from asthma, more Americans dying early deaths and only miniscule reduction of global warming pollution."

And, as the ECG has pointed out, the Environmental Protection Agency's own analysis of the proposal supports that claim, making clear the ACE Plan could increase carbon emissions and potentially cause as many as 1,400 premature deaths each year by 2030.

And, in the end, President Trumps plan is unlikely to bring back many jobs in coal mining regions of the country.

Axios: Trump officials will tout how this rule will stop what they call Obama’s war on coal, but independent analysts say coal’s decline will continue, and is fueled largely by cheaper natural gas and renewables anyway.
