FBI Executes Search Warrants on Atty. Michael Cohen's New York Office - Trump Outraged
The FBI executed a number of individual search warrants on Donald Trump's long-time personal lawyer Michael Cohen on Monday, prompting outrage from Trump. Cohen's lawyer, Stephen Ryan, said in a statement. "I have been advised by federal prosecutors that the New York action is, in part, a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller." The warrants were served at Cohen's Office and hotel room. The Washington Post reported that according to three people with knowledge of the case, he is under federal investigation for bank fraud, wire fraud and possible campaign finance violations.
In recent weeks, Cohen's name has been in the news regarding his role in negotiating a settlement agreement with Stormy Daniels on behalf of a company he established to pay her $130,000 in exchange for her silence about her affair with Trump.
Its very interesting to note in this case that The US attorney for the Southern District of New York is Geoffrey Berman, who was the Trump/Sessions selection for the job. There are also strict special guidelines for obtaining warrants for Attorney's offices.
