Abandoned Castles

We just love abandoned castles. Its about imagining their history...their story.

This is Whorlton Castle in New Yorkshire, England which dates from the 12th Century. At the time of the Domesday Book [more on this sometime], Whorlton was recorded as belonging to Robert, Count of Mortain, the half-brother of William the Conqueror.

This is the ruins of the Gmina Mirów castle in Mirow, Poland. It was built in the 14th Century.

Above is Coity Castle in Bridgend, UK. It was originally built about 1100, but much of the castle dates from the 14th century. It was abandoned in the beginning of the 17th century.

Lorca Castle is located in [surprise] Lorca, Spain and the site has been inhabited since Neolithic times. The first written reference to the castle itself was in the 9th century by Muslims which ruled the region. The Castle was abandoned by the Spanish in the early years of the 18th century.
